Smithfield – Richard Vaughan Richardson, 90, passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Logan. He was born July 18, 1917 in Smithfield, Utah to Richard Harper and Marion Alice Vaughan Richardson. Vaughan was raised and educated in Smithfield, graduating from North Cache High School in Richmond, where he excelled in vocational agriculture. He was a board member of the Smithfield Irrigation Company and was instrumental in starting the Smithfield Trap Club. He, along with his brothers, was a member of the Blue Sox baseball team. He was later made an honorary team member. Vaughan loved to garden and did so all his life. He enjoyed sharing the produce with family and friends. He was an avid hunter and loved baseball. He was active in the LDS Church serving in elders quorum presidencies several times over the years. He was a faithful home teacher and prior to his death held the office of high priest. Vaughan is survived by brothers: William Stanley Glenna Richardson, Logan; Gilbert E. Janet Richardson, Burley, Id; a sister-in-law, Hazel Richardson, Mesquite, Nv; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ila McFarland, Willa Cellan; brother, Joseph Conrad Richardson; brothers-in-law: Ken McFarland and Merle Cellan; and a nephew, Larry McFarland. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Smithfield 2nd ward chapel, 175 South 100 West, Smithfield, Utah. Friends and family may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Friday morning at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services.
