Richard Peirce Nelson Tremonton: The Heavens are rejoicing as a valiant spirit returns home to the arms of his Savior and other loved ones who have longingly and patiently awaited him. Our loving husband, father, ?papa?, and brother, Richard Peirce Nelson, 62, passed away at his home on February 23, 2003, from leukemia. He died as he lived with hope, courage and humor. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Richard was born April 5, 1940, in Brigham City, Utah, to LaRue B. and Lucille Peirce Nelson. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1958 and attended Weber State College. He worked for Thiokol Corporation after high school. He married Sandra Bowcutt on May 9, 1964. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on August 24, 2002. In 1965 they moved to California where he worked for Kaiser Engineers. During those 19 years with Kaiser, he was given the opportunity of traveling for them and seeing much of the world. His family was blessed through their frequent moves to associate and make friends with those of many different cultures. In 1984, he moved his family back to Utah where he retired from Thiokol in June 2001. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently and faithfully in all he was called to do. He loved serving as Secretary to the High Priests and enjoyed the friendship of those in his quorum. He had a very strong testimony of the power of prayer. His talents were many and far-reaching. He was blessed with a delightful sense of humor. This gift remained with him to the very end. He loved life and found joy in each new day in spite of the physical trials he suffered. He will always be a great example of courage to his family. He loved being involved in his children?s lives and found great joy in teaching them the value of work. While his children were young, he developed an interest in rock hunting with them and making beautiful silver jewelry from their finds. He was greatly gifted in this work. His final passion was his wood shop where he loved creating beautiful pieces of woodwork. Much of his work was humbly given to family and friends. His wood shop was also a great place of enjoyment where he visited with his good friends and traded wood patterns and stories. He is now being taught by the greatest Carpenter of all. He is survived by his wife and three children: Eric Melanie Nelson of Las Vegas, NV; Curtis Kimberly Nelson, Lehi, UT; and Kimberly Tony Smith of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by five grandchildren whom he adored; Jordan, Zachary, Emily, Katie, and Anna; and two brothers, Kent L. Nelson of Citrus Heights, CA and Steven K. Nelson, Pleasanton, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, LaRue Pete and Jon Scott. ...And this can be said of him: ?He endured well to the end.? Funeral services will be held Friday, February 28, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton LDS South Stake Center, 1150 South Tremont Street. Family and friends may call, Thursday, February 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, February 28th from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton.
