Rhoda Hideko Sato Haramoto

Elwood - Rhoda Hideko Sato Haramoto, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Elwood. She was joyfully reunited with her husband, parents, siblings and many other loved ones. Rhoda was born on December 12, 1918 in St. John, Idaho, the eldest child of Tora and Ushizo Sato. She grew up in East Garland and was a hard working daughter and loving example to her six younger siblings. Rhoda graduated from Bear River High School. On March 27, 1942, she married Talase "Moon" Haramoto in Malad, Idaho. In the following years, she worked side by side with her husband raising their five children and building the family farm. They were known for their weed-free fields and growing the best celery, tomatoes and onions in the valley. Rhoda enjoyed bowling, sponsoring athletic teams and cheering on her grandchildren in their activities. She was a beautiful singer and taught herself to play the piano. She loved cooking for her family and kept many family traditions alive. She was known for her handiwork and crocheted beautiful hot pads for friends around the valley and the world. Grandma wouldn't let you leave her house without taking more than you brought. She was a member of the Honeyville Buddhist Church and the Fujinkai, where she appreciated her many friends.
Rhoda is survived by her five children: LeRoy Haramoto, Elwood; Tamara Lloyd Wood, Elwood; Lynn Haramoto, Brigham City; Stanley Ryla Haramoto, Tremonton; Steven Chyral Haramoto, Elwood; sister, Aiko Hideo Yanagida, Japan; brother, Wallace Yuki Sato , Salt Lake City; 25 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mary and Dorothy, two brothers, George and Ted and a daughter-in-law, Sandy. Grandma Rhoda will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to everyone. We are grateful for the example she set for us and will miss her. We love you Grandma.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2010 at 11 am at the Honeyville Buddhist Church, 3945 W. 6900 N., Honeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, and Wednesday prior to the funeral at the church. Interment, Riverview Cemetery.
