Rex Call Spackman, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Lewiston, Utah early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2008. His love for the gospel of Jesus Christ served as an anchor in his life. His witness of the Plan of Salvation, the Atonement and Resurrection bless many who know and love him. Rex was born September 18, 1927 in Lewiston, Utah to Hazen Merlin and Rosa May Call Spackman. He attended Cache County Schools and Utah State University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in History. He obtained a Masters degree in History and Political Science from the University of Chicago. His love for places, dates, and people -- ancient and modern, religious and political -- was ever present. He served in the Army following the end of World War II, then departed for an LDS mission to the southern states. Three months after his mission release, Rex married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Rindlisbacher, March 17, 1950 in the Logan Temple. They have welcomed 14 children into their home and now have 55 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Known as "Brother Spackman" to thousands of students, He taught seminary and institute for the Church Educational System for 35 years. Rex also enjoyed the opportunity of raising his children on a small dairy farm. He was an accomplished organist and pianist, a gifted teacher, and loved cars of every kind. He served as Bishop, High Councilor, instructor, home teacher, and many other service opportunities in the Church. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Keith and Wayne; and sister Joyce Sjostrom. He is survived by his wife Mildred of Lewiston; his children: Dennis Diane, Vernal; Gary Diane, Boise; Leon Colette, Albuquerque; Howard Sandy, San Diego; Mary Ellen Glen Ogden, Lewiston; Sydney Richard Hawkes, Syracuse; Paul Kerri, Syracuse; Sandra David Boizelle, Mesa; David Kim, Tremonton; Marnae Wally Trotter, Salem; Roger Suzy Anchorage; Diane Jeff Bell, Kaysville; Steven RayeAnn Kaysville; Richard Amber, Lewiston; and a sister, Shirley Rawlings, Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Richmond LDS Stake Center, 135 West Main, Richmond, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
