Rex Merrill Brown 73 passed away of natural causes November 6, 2007 at his home in Smithfield, Utah following a successful fishing trip. He was born March 3, 1934 in Fairview, Wyoming and was preceded in death by his father Willard Rex Brown, mother Hazel Luella Hoopes, step-father Delbert A. Chadwick, brother Reese and sister Valeen. In addition to his wife Joan Wuthrich Brown and sons, Mike Heidi, Dan Michele, Tim Darci, Chris Nanette and Jeff Diana, he is survived by his sisters Phyllis, Dena, Caren, Lynada, and brothers Vern and Rendle. Merrill was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in various leadership capacities throughout his life. Merrill and his loving companion Joan, were married in the Logan LDS Temple September 8, 1952. Merrill was a gifted machinist, woodworker, and engineer and was known throughout Cache Valley as a master craftsman willing to accept any challenge brought to his shop located behind his home in Smithfield. His life was spent in the service of others.
Merrill loved the out of doors, and spent most of his free time with his sons and grandchildren fishing camping, and hunting. He and his wife Joan have devoted the latter years of their lives teaching and entertaining their numerous grandchildren. ?Gramps? as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren spent the last years of his life creating beautiful pieces of furniture for them to remember him by. His legacy will live on with his children, grandchildren, and extended family for the eternities. We truly call him ?blessed?.
Viewings will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home located at 85 South Main Street in Smithfield, Utah and Saturday morning at the church prior to the funeral service from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. The funeral services will be conducted by Bishop Roger Hansen at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10th at the Smithfield 17th Ward located at 79 East 200 South, in Smithfield, Utah.
