Raymond McKlevain Dixon

Smithfield, UT?Raymond ?Dutch? McKlevain Dixon, 81, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at Logan Regional Hospital. He was born July 28, 1921 in Oakmont, West Virginia, to Ollie Slyman and Martha Elizabeth Sweitzer. Dutch grew up on the Maryland ? West Virginia border on Backbone Mountain. He left school at age 16 to support his mother during the depression, working in coal mines at Vindex, MD. He married Dollie Maxine Comp on January 30, 1943?their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on September 5, 1962. He served in the Pacific during World War II 1943-46. In the service he received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, New Guinea Campaign Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon-Bronze Star, Luzon Campaign Bronze Star, Drivers Mechanics Badge with Bar M. After the service, he returned to Vindex where he and Dollie purchased their first home, ?The Ranch.? In 1950, the mines shut down and they moved to Pittsburgh, PA where he received technical training, as an electrician, under the GI Bill. In 1955 they moved to Baltimore, MD where he worked for Bethlehem Steel until his retirement at age 66. In 2000 they moved to Morris, IL, and Smithfield, UT, with their son and family. Dollie passed away on December 30, 2000. Dutch was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many years in Elders Quorum and High Priest leadership. He also served in the Boy Scouts, as Sunday School President, and was a temple officiator in the Washington, D.C. Temple prior to moving away. He is survived by his children, Jimmie Dale Harriet Dixon, Pensacola, FL, Dennis Jay Dixon, Foley, AL, Deon Ray Karen Dixon, Smithfield, UT, Kevin Reed Linda Dixon, Baltimore, MD, Keith Roy Melissa Dixon, Baltimore, MD, Jill Denise Jason Juhlke, Hamilton, Ontario; 17 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie, 7 brothers and 2 sisters, Onie Ott, James Kinser, Mary ?Till? Lancaster, J. Thomas Kinser, Julius ?Jude? Kinser, Beulah ?Boots? Rohrbaugh, Orval ?Mike? Tasker, Oliver ?Pete? Dixon, and Carl Slyman. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the mortuary prior to services. Additional services will be held in Baltimore, MD, where he will be interred on Friday, April 18, 2003.
