Ray Hulet passed away at home in Smithfield, Utah, on March 27, 2011 after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. Ray Hulet was one of a set of twins born to John Silas and Nancy Elva Hunt Hulet. He was born 16 March, 1923 at Provo, Utah, the fourth of six children. His early childhood was spent at Peterson, in Morgan County, Utah, and his high school days in Rockland, Power County, Idaho. Upon graduation from high school, he entered college at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, later transferring to the University ofIdaho at Moscow. With World War II well underway, Ray interrupted his schooling and volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army. After 26 months of service in the Pacific theater, he was honorably discharged at the close of the war. This was followed by a call to the Central Pacific Mission where he labored with the Japanese people in the Hawaiian Islands for two year. In January 1949, Ray re-enrolled at the University of Idaho where he graduated in June 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. While attending the U. of I., he met Lorraine Lundquist, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 23, 1949. Six children blessed their union. Currently, he has 34 grandhcildren, 26 great- grandchildern and 4 in the "cooker"! After college graduation Ray was employed by the Pet Milk Company as a field representative, and later entered into plant management as a supervisor and then as plant superintendent. He worked for Pet for seventeen years, but his employment was terminated by a closure of the company's processing plant at Richmond, Utah, where he had been assigned. From 1971 to 1989 Ray was employed by the Utah Department of Agriculture as a Food Compliance Officer in the Department of Food and Consumer Services. He worked in northern Utah until his retirement in September 1989. Ray and his family lived in southern Idaho and northern Utah, nearly 40 of those years spent in Smithfield. Ray was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life, and served in many different positions. While living at Richmond, he spent eight years as counselor in the bishopric of the Richmond Ward. He served in Smithfield Third Ward as Financial Clerk, Executive Secretary, Ward Activities Chairman, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Stake Auditor, High Priests' Group Leader, and Temple Patron. When the Logan Temple was remodeled and rededicated in 1979, Ray was called and set apart as an officiator at the temple baptistry, where he served one evening each week until he and his wife, Lorraine, were called on a mission in 1990. They served for 18 months in the Philippines Baguio Mission. In 1996 Ray and Lorraine were called and set apart as Ordinance Workers in the Logan Temple where they served until released early in 2008. Ray loved the outdoors and traveling. Growing a large vegetable garden and keeping the yard well- maintained brought him great pleasure. He loved traveling with his wife across the United States and to many foreign destinations, Ray is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughter, Diane Ron Daly, Jr. of San Jose, CA; and five sons: Dennis Debbie of Snohomish, WA; Gary Dorinda of Winter Springs, FL; Rodney Connie of Upland, CA; Donald Kaysee of Bountiful, UT; and Carl Shanna of Sugar Land, TX; 34 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. His twin sister, Fae Moss, is still living. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, March 31, 2011 in the Smithfield Eleventh Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South in Smithfield. Friend may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 South Main Street, and from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the church.
