North Logan ? In the arms of a loving God, Rachel Whitworth, age 79, passed away at her temporary home at the Terrace Grove Assisted Living Center in Logan on November 13, 2002. Rachel was born to Richard and Helen Hollingsworth on a farm in Woonsocket, SD on April 20, 1923. She is the fourth of eight children. At age 16, she graduated from Alpena High School and moved to Mitchell, SD where she worked as a secretary. She attended Simpson College in Indianola, IA, where she met Milford. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1947 and then to Logan in 1948 where they started their family. In 1967, after getting all the children started in school, she went to Utah State University while still working full time, to complete her Bachelor?s degree in Social Work. She then became a Social Worker for the Department of Welfare. In 1976 she was honored by the Utah Public Employee?s Association as the Outstanding Female Employee in the Bear River District. Governor Rampton awarded her as first runner-up as Outstanding Public Employee for the State of Utah. From 1978-1985 she served as Deputy Clerk for the 2nd Circuit Court. Rachel was a member of the Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and active in the Deacons group. Rachel will be greatly missed by her husband of 55 years, her seven children, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Of all her achievements, the best and only one that mattered was her love and care for her family. Her gentle strength and moral fiber are the legacy she leaves for those who knew her. She had a quiet way of guiding her children and grandchildren to love the simple joys of life, such as growing a tomato or making cookies. Rachel loved the English language and always found time to read a story with little people snuggled all around her. She was a healer of wounds, counselor for broken hearts and a teacher that believed that reading a story or rocking a baby was more important than tending to dirty dishes. Incredibly patient and kind, forever teaching, wife, mom and grandma, our angel on earth. She is survived by her husband, Milford; Children: Leslie Whitworth, Portland, OR; Dennis Whitworth, Roy, UT; Ann Ransom, Colorado Springs, CO; Gordon Whitworth, Bellingham, WA; Susan Woodruff, Monument, CO; Brian Whitworth, Mesa, AZ and Lee Whitworth, Santaquin, UT. Memoral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Center Street and 2nd West at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2002. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.
