Platt ''D'' Lyman Ward

West Jordan, Utah --- Platt D. Lyman Ward, 91, former Logan, Utah, resident, passed away, Friday, December 13, 2002, at the home of a son, Lyman D. Ward, in West Jordan, Utah. He was born March 24, 1911, in Preston, Idaho, to Joseph Edward Ward and Mary Emeline Garner. He was the fifth child of nine children. Platt graduated from Preston High School and pursued his education at Utah State University, where he played in the ROTC Military Band. He married Wilma Marguerite Bawden, June 8, 1938, in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away January 11, 1999. They resided in Oxford, Idaho, where he engaged in dairy and poultry farming. He was an active member of the LDS Church, having served as: bishop?s counselor, ward clerk, Gospel Doctrine teacher, music director, Family History instructor, and temple officiator. Platt served as a missionary in the Netherlands, twice; the second time with his eternal companion, Wilma, from 1977 to 1979. Surviving are two sons and seven daughters: Lyman Linnea Ward, West Jordan, Utah; Edward Nadine Ward, Ucon, Idaho; Marjory Mervin Gifford, Preston, Idaho; Evelyn Bob Tingey, Perry, Utah; Ilene Mike Hendrick, Perry, Utah, currently serving Ukraine Mission; Sylvia Ed Brown, Oasis, Utah; Loretta Ron Smith, Sugar City, Idaho; Jeannette Ronnie Packer, Riverdale, Idaho; LaPreale Curtis Corbridge, Layton, Utah; 61 grandchildren; 111 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Koller, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Preceding Platt in death: three grandchildren, Gregory Smith Daniel Tingey and Moroni Brown; five sisters? Luella Bowman, Edith Hawke, Vera Nielsen, Marguerite Jepsen, and June Pierce; two brothers? Hyrum Ward and Burnice Ward. Funeral services will be held 12 o?clock, noon, Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Logan 4th Ward Chapel, 300 North 100 East, with Bishop John Whiting conducting. A viewing will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Relief Society Room. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
