Deweyville - Our mother, and our dad's sweetheart, Phyllis E. Matson Peterson, passed away on March 27, 2005 at the Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton, UT of pneumonia.
She was born February 9, 1922, in Lorenzo, Jefferson County, Idaho a daughter of Lorenzo Edward Matson and Edith Pearl Morgan. She attended schools in Mud Lake, and Rigby, Idaho, and graduated with a teaching certificate from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. She taught in Mud Lake, Idaho before her marriage and later worked as a seamstress and teachers aide.
She married Von LeRoy Peterson on November 10, 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of seven children.
Phyllis was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served two missions with her husband and also a stake mission before her marriage. She sewed humanitarian items for the church and held various positions in the church throughout her life.
Mother will be remembered for her sewing and needlework. She was an accomplished doll maker and loved to sew and crochet tiny doll clothes and blankets. She enjoyed gardening and had a keen interest in life and a sharp intellect up to the closing moments of her life. She will be greatly missed.
Phyllis participated in the Special Grandma Program at the Youth Service Center in St. Anthony, Idaho, and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her husband - Von of Deweyville, Utah; and seven children - Linda Glenn Young of Orlando, FL, Jan Doolittle of Waterford, VI, Sherie William Goring of Deweyville, UT, Maribeth Norman Mayfield of Bountiful, UT, Tim Peggy Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT, Paulette Jerry Bratt of Idaho Falls, ID, and Dawna Tage Hansen of Tabor, Alberta, Canada; one brother and three sisters - Lois Golden Peterson of LaBelle, ID, Evelyn Tronier of Salt Lake City, UT, Jerry Barabra Matson of Pasco, WA, and Judy Bruce Godfrey of Logan, UT, she is the grandmother of 41 grandchildren, and 58 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister - Clara Davenport, one son-in-law, James Herbert Hammons, and three grandchildren - Blake Peterson, Augustina Bratt, and Nicholas Bratt.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Beaver Ward, 16025 North Beaver Dam Road, Beaver Dam, UT. Friends may call on Saturday prior to services from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Graveside Committal will be held at 4:30 P.M. at the St. Anthony Idaho Riverview Cemetery.
The family wishes to express thanks to the kind nurses at Bear River Valley Hospital for their help during Mother's last days and to all of her home care workers, friends, and family members who helped her stay in Idaho Falls.
