Perry Hymas Crossley

Perry Hymas Crossley, 75, passed away June 6, 2010 at his home in Smithfield, Utah surrounded by loved ones after a valiant battle with extended illnesses. Perry was born Oct 31, 1934 in Smoot, Wyoming, to Lowell Samuel and Elfonda Hymas Crossley. The family lived in various places in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. They settled in Smithfield in 1947. Perry graduated from North Cache High School in 1952. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission from 1955 to 1957. Perry served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 where he trained jumping horses for the U.S. Army Pentalion Team. Perry was sealed to the love of his life, LaVoyle Sally Crossley in the Logan LDS Temple on July 22, 1960. They began their lives together in Smithfield where Perry worked various jobs. In 1963, Perry and Sally moved their young family to Alberta, Canada where Perry worked as a rancher. They eventually settled in Spruce Grove, Alberta where he managed the Searle Grain Company grain elevators. Perry made many life long friends while living in Canada. After 9 years, they moved back and settled again in Smithfield. Perry worked a short time for the Trenton Feed Co-Op. Perry went to work for Utah State University in 1977 where he held many positions throughout his career. He retired from USU in 1997. Perry and his wife served a mission for the church where they labored in Farm Management in Riverbend, Oregon. Perry and Sally also enjoyed working as camp hosts at Tony Grove, Utah and Red Fish Lake, Idaho. Much of Perry's life was spent enjoying time with his family. Some of their best memories were times spent together camping, hunting and fishing. Perry was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ. Perry served as Branch President in Panoka, Alberta and later was called as the first Branch President in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Perry held many other priesthood leadership callings after returning to Utah including counselor in the bishopric, member of the Stake High Council and Bishop of the Smithfield 4th Ward. Perry's testimony of the gospel will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren. Perry is survived by his wife, Sally, his sisters Illa Noble Erickson and Veda Max Hillyard, his children Jerry Diane, Leo, Nancy Scott Ellis, Jan Doyle Knudsen, Sally Rick Westover, Lowell, Drifty Krista, LeeAnn Mike Peterson, JaLynn Josh May, and JoLynn Kevin Blotter. Also surviving are 51 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Perry is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lowell, and his sisters Mary Gerald Harsha and Lois Robert Johnson. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Smithfield North Stake Center, 155 West 400 North in Smithfield, Utah. Friends and family may call at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main in Smithfield, Utah on Wednesday June 9, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday June 10, 2010 at the chapel. Interment will follow the services and will take place at the Smithfield Cemetery.
