SMITHFIELD, UTAH – Paula Hodges Denney, 52, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 23, 2012 after lengthy and numerous health problems. Born Sept 14, 1960 in Preston, Idaho to Wanda Egbert and Elmo Hodges, she was the sixth of seven children. When Paula was about 6 years old, the family moved to Weston, Idaho where she resided with family to age 17. Tragedy struck the Hodges family, a younger sister Janeal 9yrs and mother, Wanda passed away within a years time. She then moved to Logan, Utah to live with an older brother Randy deceased and his wife Marsha Nicoles. During the oil boom in the mid 80's the three moved to Rawlins, Wyo for employment, and stayed for a short time. In the late 80's she moved back to Cache Valley for good. Her employment through the years took her to Ernst Home Center, Low Cost Drug, Rawlins Paint and Glass, Icon Health and Fitness, and Smithfield Implement. In 1989 she met Brett Denney at Icon. They were married May 18, 1990 in the Old Rock Church in Providence, Utah. In 1991 they moved to Smithfield, Utah, where she currently resided until the time of her death. During their early marriage, they loved camping and boating. She loved the outdoors, sitting around the campfire telling stories, and admiring God's majestic creation. Paula was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was working toward a Temple Marriage. In the millennium year 2000, the Heavens blessed her with her only child, Kali Rose, who was her pride and joy. "Kali, even though mom was sick these last few years, she loved you with all her heart. Always remember that." Paula's hobby's included watching her 'soaps', listening to real music from the 70's and 80's and she loved to decorate the house for every event and holiday, and cherished family events. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janeal, and brother Randy. She is survived by her husband Brett, and daughter Kali. Also her brothers Mike, Kenny, Kimber, Scott along with their families. Also Marsha Hodges, whom she treated as her own sister. A special thanks goes out to Dr. Todd Brown, Dr. Bryan Larsen, Dr. Ira Crawford. Logan Regional staff, and Ogden Regional staff for all their efforts in keeping Paula with us a few extra years. Last but not least, our families and especially our church family that has been by our side throughout the years. "Paula we love you very much, and will miss you deeply, til we meet again."
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 12 noon in the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South, Smithfield. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Idaho at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
