Patricia Glenn

October 3, 1957 — February 21, 2017

Patricia (Patty) Glenn passed away peacefully in the Autumn Care Assisted Living Center on Monday, February 21, 2017. She was 59 years old. Patty was born Oct. 3, 1957 to Drue Gibbons Glenn and Lucille Koller Glenn. She was born with Down Syndrome during a time when people with disabilities were not as well understood and accepted as they are today. She grew up in a loving home with parents who were strong advocates for their daughter and worked tirelessly to provide her with opportunities and experiences that would help her enjoy a happy and successful life. Patty’s mother, Lucille, was instrumental in getting Patty involved in the Benson Workshop for special needs people, USU’s Special Education programs, Special Olympics, and eventually Cache Employment & Training Center (CETC). Patty was very social and loved her friends and family. She loved parties, special occasions and her birthday! She loved to talk about her favorite sports teams, especially the Utah Jazz and the USU Aggies. She knew statistics and names of professional football players and talked about them with anyone who would listen. She participated in Special Olympics and was happy to be part of the excitement of being a “winner” along with her other friends. She loved bowling and her own bowling ball and shoes. Drue and Lucille taught Patty to be fairly independent. Through their encouragement and the support and training of the wonderful people at CETC, she worked at two jobs – one with Logan City Recreation Center and one with Design West. She learned to navigate the Logan City bus schedule, and for several years enjoyed doing her own shopping. Patty had a unique style of decorating her clothes and shoes with scotch tape, magic markers, and cut out pictures from magazines. After her parents both passed away Patty made the difficult transition and moved ahead with her life. She was generally happy, nonjudgmental, forgiving, witty, and innocent. Much of her success and happiness in her adult life came as the result of the care and love of her many friends and employers. We appreciate you wonderful, amazing people more than you will ever know. You became wonderful and genuine friends to Patty and she loved all of you. As Patty’s health declined in the last few years and she was no longer able or interested in leaving her home, the wonderful people of CETC came to her home for ongoing support and visits. Katie Compton, who lived in Patty’s home with her, became almost a sister to her. Thanks to Hospice and the Autumn Care Assisted Living Center who worked with Patty during the last few days of her life. Thanks also to Dr. Todd Brown. Patty taught us many lessons, one being that despite challenges you can be happy. She also taught us to love unconditionally. Patty was one of those people who made life brighter just by being herself. Through Patty we have been reminded of the sincerity of good people who make such a positive difference in the well-being of others. We are excited for her to rejoin her parents and other family members and to be freed from the challenges of mortality. Patty is survived by her siblings – Janice (Mike) Scott, Colleen (Veldon) McBride, Bonnie (Dee) Child, and Kent Glenn. She is preceded in death by an older brother and by her parents. Funeral Services will be in the LDS Logan 9th Ward (5th North 1st East) on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Viewing from 11:30-12:30 in the same building. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cache Employment & Training Center or Utah Special Olympics. Interment will be Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Logan City Cemetery.
