Parley Jeppson Welch, Jr., long time resident of Smithfield, passed away at the age of 76 at McKay-Dee Hospital on January 24, 2003. He was born on December 3, 1926, in Paradise, Utah. He was the son of Parley Jeppson Welch, Sr. and Gertrude Martha Gleaves. He married Nathalie Cummings Atkin on May 19, 1973, in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Parley enjoyed flying small aircraft, fishing, camping and quilting with Nathalie. He is a member of the LDS Church. He worked at the Ogden Defense Depot and was a long time member of the American Legion, Post #58. Parley is a World War II veteran and served in Japan during the occupation. He loved to share his stories of his time in Japan and of his childhood in Paradise, Utah. He is survived by eight step-children, Lyle Char Izatt, Smithfield, Lynn Izatt, La Plata, New Mexico, Jody Cathy Atkin, Elko, Nevada, Beverly Evans, Pocatello, Idaho, Maxene Izatt, Logan, Chuck Izatt, Richmond, Tim Syd Izatt, St. George, Ronald Mary Alice Izatt, Clarksville, Tennessee, and many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Parley is survived by one brother, John O. Welch, Watsonville, CA, he is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Winston Gleave Welch. Parley will be greatly missed, he was truly a Gentleman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at 12 Noon at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan with William Bradford conducting. Friends may call on Tuesday evening at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Smithfield American Legion Post #58.
