Bear River City, UT – Orson DeVerl Barker, 79, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009. He was born May 7, 1929 to Orson Lorenzo and Blanche Bywater Barker in Brigham City, UT. He attended Bear River City Elementary and graduated from Box Elder High School. He married Carol Thompson April 21, 1949 in Logan LDS Temple. DeVerl was a hard worker in every job he had and honest in all his dealings. He worked for Merrells Lumber Co. in Brigham City, Ostrander Catering Service at Thiokol and Box Elder School District in the warehouse and as a custodian. He is survived by his wife and his children: Carol Ann Mark Anderson, Lynn Jackie Barker, Ruth Dell Olsen, Jean Ron Stoddard and Tuoi Van Tran from Vietnam who lived with and was loved as a son; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roland Barker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, great-grandchild, Dallas Sorenson, grandson-in-law, Robert Hurt; half-brothers: Lionel Barker, Rex and Ray Barker twins and step-sister, Juanita Stone.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bear River LDS Chapel, 5870 North 4700 West, Bear River City with Bishop Steven Stewart officiating. Family and friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
