Orlean Hodges Barrus

Tremonton: Orlean Hodges Barrus, 85, of Tremonton, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the Bear River Valley Care Center in Tremonton. She was born on March 18, 1918 in Lewiston, Utah the daughter of Abraham Henry and Hannah Fuller Hodges. She married Winford Melvin Barrus on February 25, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Orlean?s hobbies and interests included family history and genealogy, oil painting, gardening wonderful lilacs, roses, and peonies, sewing, and family gatherings. She was a former member of the Tremonton Civic Club, named Tremonton Utah ?Mother of the Year?, she owned and managed the Drapery Center for many years, was a clerk at Hill Air Force Base for several years, and volunteered with costumes and greeting patrons at the Stage Stop Theatre. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various leadership and teaching positions including: Relief Society Presidency, served a full time mission with her husband to Washington Seattle Mission, served as officiators in the Logan Temple. She had a strong love and desire to help others as evidenced by her caring for her mother and mother-in-law for many years. She was totally devoted to her family. Survivors include her husband ? Winford Melvin Barrus of Tremonton; their children ? Melvin Beth Barrus of Lewiston, ID, Emma Jean Bryan Larsen of Tremonton, Hunter Janice Barrus, Marilyn Ron Taylor, Tim Cleo Barrus all of Deweyville, and Jodie Soni Barrus of Draper, Utah; one brother ? Jay Hodges of Preston, ID; one sister Bernice Gregory of Lewiston, Utah; 31 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the Tremonton 1st Ward, 166 North Tremont Street. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 28 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 ? 11:45 at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Interment will be in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
