On November 23, 2011, our loving mother and grandmother, Ora, quietly passed on to a better place to be with her family on the other side for a Thanksgiving gathering. Ora was 100 years old. Her daughter, Rose Ann was at her side when she passed. Ora was born May 10, 1911 in Providence, Utah to Henry M. and Eliza Stirland Zollinger, the oldest of seven children. She was raised in Providence and received her early education there. She graduated one year early from South Cache High School and attended one year at Utah State Agricultural College.
Ora married Aldon Junius Thompson August 31, 1933 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Elwood, Utah and are the parents of seven children. On May 23, 1961, her husband passed away leaving her to raise the remaining four children at home. She provided for her family by using her sewing ability. She is well known for her exceptional skill as a wedding dress artist. Her skill is legendary, not only in the Bear River Valley, but even as far away as Taiwan. She could create a masterpiece of satin and lace, just by looking at a picture. Her strong will and perseverance have carried her through the years.
Ora was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many capacities. She is most recently remembered as the organist at the Bear River Care Center, where she served for over 25 years. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and exemplified it in all her daily actions. Her integrity, dedication, and kindness is and was a great example to those around her. Surviving are her children; McAldon Tyra Thompson, Jon Z. Betty Mae, deceased; Aleta, deceased Thompson, Richard Z.Kaaren Thompson, Aldene Thompson, David Z.Trudy Thompson, Henry Z. KathyThompson, and Rose Ann Loren Linford; two brothers; Dean and Clayne Joy Zollinger; two sisters-in-law; Lois Thompson and Daryl Billings; 31 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters, two daughters-in-law, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
