Norma Yearsley Schiffman, 89, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, June 3, 2004, in Logan, Utah. Norma was born in her Grandmother Jones? log house on November 23, 1914, in St. John, Idaho. Her parents were Nathan Melvin and Josephine Jones Yearsley. She was the oldest of nine children. Norma was an excellent student as she grew up and graduated from Malad High School in 1933 as valedictorian. She then attended Utah State University for two years where she sang in the Women?s Glee Club and enjoyed performing in many special presentations. Music was her lifetime love and she had a beautiful alto voice. She played the piano and organ and shared this talent throughout her life, playing as ward and choir organist, at funerals, and at the Logan Temple for many years. As an active member of the LDS Church her entire life, she served in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, as Ward Historian, and in the Name Extraction Program for many years. She loved genealogy and devoted innumerable hours of research and compilation of family histories. Norma worked for Utah State University for twenty-one years. She was Executive Secretary of the Utah Water Research Laboratory for sixteen years where she assisted three directors and supervised the secretarial staff. Norma is survived by her husband, Darrell R. Schiffman, her sons: Jay Trish of Bountiful; Gary Susan of Sandy; and Farrell of West Valley City; her sisters: Rula Don Gowers; Theone Phil Rees; Karen Kent; her brothers: Dale and Joyce Renee Yearsley; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in by her parents and sisters: Elmo Smith, Twila Giles and Ina Daniels. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Logan Tenth Ward Chapel, 792 North 500 East. Family and friends may pay their respects at a viewing from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday or from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11th at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah.
