NORTH LOGAN- Norma Hafen Henrie, 81, died after a long struggle with cancer Tuesday, December 15, 2009, the last day of her 60th year of marriage to Weston G Henrie. She was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Provo, Utah to Joseph and Mary Harris Hafen. She married Weston Gibb Henrie December 16, 1949 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Her preschool days were happily spent in the Kanab and Grand Canyon area while her father was working on road construction. Her family also lived at the head of American Fork Canyon while her father was mining. She attended Provo City schools. Norma was in the reporters club, student council, and the president of the home economics club in Junior High. In 1943, the teachers of Dixon Junior High presented her with the William H. Danforth "I Dare You" Award in appreciation for her "splendid interest in school affairs." While in Senior High, she was active in the home economics club and an officer in the dramatic arts club. Spending money came from helping other people by tending children, doing housework, and helping in the fruit harvest. After graduating from Provo High in 1946, Norma entered Brigham Young University on scholarship. She worked in the alumni office. While at Brigham Young, she met and became engaged to Weston Gibb Henrie prior to his mission service in Denmark. In the spring of 1947, Norma was chosen as the Days of 47 Centennial Queen for Provo City. She represented Provo City for all of the state Centennial Activities. She worked as a telephone operator from 1948-1950. In those days it was "Number please..." Weston returned from his mission and re-enrolled in Brigham Young University. They married December 16, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After Weston's graduation from BYU in 1952 they moved to Logan where Weston taught at Logan High. Norma was active in the PTA and was a member of the Logan High Women's Faculty League. She was very well known for her expert culinary skills, and her ability to create beautiful custom couture clothing for herself, her family, and others. Norma loved her flower, vegetable, and herb gardens. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in Primary, Mutual, Young Women, Sunday School, and various positions in Relief Society. Norma is a loving, kind and gentle soul, and the epitome of selfless service. In the spirit of her pioneer ancestors, she accepted what life handed her without complaint, caring for those around her without thought to her own wants or needs. She magnified her callings of wife and mother, and lovingly saw to the needs of those placed in her care, particularly her daughter who has suffered many trials throughout her life. Norma sacrificed her own desires daily, focusing her efforts on providing what was necessary for her family's comfort and well-being. Her example has been an inspiration to many, especially her children and grandchildren who have been truly blessed to learn at her feet from a young age what it means to live a Christ-like life. Though too humble to see this quality in herself, it was evident to all who knew her, and those who follow will always be grateful to have had her presence in their lives. Norma is survived by her husband, her four children, Cathal Henrie; Vichele Billy Hamby; Keven Krista Henrie; Daron Verlyne Henrie; eight of her siblings, Joseph Ethel Hafen Jr.; Louise Hafen; John Mark Carma Jane Hafen; Irene Edwin Gibbs; Carol Cecil Jones; Esther Jerry Blackburn; Margaret Ralph Rupp; Mary Eric Tuttle; her in-laws, Madge Gene Tomsic; Monette Robert Holmes; Teddy Dennis Peck; Freda Phil Harris; Steven Donna Henrie; Ann Bill Venn; Jane Harold Hess; her grandchildren, Kameron Katie Henrie; Konnie Douglas Giddings; Kollin Whitney Henrie; Kelsea Jed Ferguson; Kristopher Henrie; Nelia Hamby; Maren Hamby; Erin Henrie; Alix Henrie; Nathaniel Henrie; Grace Cathal Henrie; and her great-grandchildren, Brooklin Ryan, and Beckett Giddings; F.
