SMITHFIELD, UTAH Noble L. Chambers, age 96, died peacefully and unexpectedly December 4th at the Logan Regional Hospital. He was born February 8th, 1905 in Smithfield, Utah to Alfred Bence and Mary Ann Fishburn Chambers. He married DeViva Munk December 12th, 1928 in the Logan LDS Temple and they spent nearly 73 happy and productive years together as husband and wife. Their home was in Smithfield for all those years. DeViva passed away in August of this year. Noble served an LDS mission in England, and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College. He was project director for CWA and PVVA from 1933 to 1935 at which time he became director of the Cache County Public Welfare. He served in that position until his retirement in 1970. Noble spent his life in public service. He was one of the founders of the Sunshine Terrace Foundation in 1948. He served on the board of directors for 47 years, serving as president of the board for six of those years. He was chairman of the Bear River District Board of Health for ten years. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Service Award from Utah State University in 1998, The Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award , Outstanding Citizen Award for Smithfield City , Volunteer of the Week, and served in many other public service capacities. Noble held many leadership positions in the LDS Church including Bishop, Stake High Council, Gospel Doctrine teacher, served in the Smithfield Stake Presidency for six years and actively attended his church meetings throughout his long life. He is survived by five children, Garth L. DeAnn Lewiston, Ut Joleen Russell Elwood, Cleon Annette Chambers, Craig Linda Chambers all of Smithfield, Utah and DeeAnn Lynn Valentine of Layton. Lauana, a daughter is deceased. He has 32 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, two sisters Laura Hansen and Mary Mather both of Smithfield. He is preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, His mother and father, three brothers and four sisters. one grandchild and three great grandchildren. Noble was respected and admired by all who knew him. He was alert and had good health right up until two days before his passing. His memory and keen mind amazed all who would speak with him. He is loved by his family and was a good example for them. He will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday December 8th in the Smithfield lst and 2nd Ward building on the corner of 200 South and 100 West. Friends may call on the family between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in the Smithfield City cemetery.
