Nephi Rowley Babcock

March 24, 1912 — November 29, 2003

Nephi Rowley Babcock of Smithfield was reunited with his sweetheart Saturday November 29, He will be greatly missed by those of us left behind. Nephi was born March 24, 1912, in Driggs, Idaho, to George M. and Lillian Whitman Babcock. He was the second of 12 children. Two brothers and one sister are still living. He grew up in Arizona but most of his adult life was spent in California. He moved to Cache Valley 21 years ago to be near his son. For many years he worked for various school districts in California. He married Vola Lucille Pyser on October 21, 1938. They later solemnized their marriage in the Logan LDS Temple on June 23, 1949. His eternal companion died three years ago. He is survived by his son Warren E. Babcock Karen of Smithfield. Four grandchildren: Thom, Melissa StuartRod, Kim, Soonhee BlackburnMartin, and three great grandchildren: Ella and Lauren Blackburn and Courtney Stuart. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, four sisters and four brothers. Nephi has held numerous LDS Church positions mainly in the areas of welfare and family history. He also served in a bishopric in California. In California he had the opportunity to assist in the construction of a number of ward and stake buildings, including the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He has always been interested in automobiles and has repaired and sold many. Western history, garage sales, and family not necessarily in that order have also been his favorites. As of late, one of his greatest joys was his weekly lunch outings with his son, his great grandchildren, and other family members. He was always friendly and got to know people easily. At the time of his death he was living in Greenbrier Assisted Living Apartments and enjoyed his many friends there, and his independent living. He loved his helpers from Heritage Brookside and looked forward to their visits. He was always sharing his testimony of the Book of Mormon. ?When you read this Book of Mormon in Third Nephi the power of the Holy Ghost bears witness that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. May the Lord hear your prayers and reveal this same testimony to you with love.? The family would like to express their gratitude to Heritage Brookside, Logan Regional Hospital, and Smithfield 10th and 11th wards for the care and concern they showed our patriarch. Funeral services will be held Wednesday December 3, 2003 at 12:00 noon in the Smithfield 11th Ward Chapel, 79 E 200 S with Bishop Alan Webb presiding. Friends and family may call from 10:30-11:30 at the church prior to the service. Burial will be in the Smithfield Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home.
