Murray Eugene Cannon

April 4, 1930 — June 24, 2010

Clearfield/Fielding-Murray Eugene Cannon, 80, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2010 at his home of natural causes. The first of four children and the only son, he was born on April 4, 1930 in Tremonton, the son of Clifford E. and Ida Ravsten Cannon. He grew up in Fielding Utah. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1948.
He enlisted in the Utah National Guard, May 12, 1948. He was motor sergeant of Battery B, 204th Field Artillery Battalion. He served in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge on his birthday, April 4, 1952.
He married Connie Rae Christensen on September 8, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. He attended Northrop Aeronautical Institute at Hawthorne, California graduating in April 1954. He then started working in flight test at Hill Air Force Base retiring Jan 3, 1986 after 35 years of service. He worked for the LDS Church for several years following his retirement from the base. He also was self employed as a gunsmith.
He enjoyed going on many hunting trips with friends and family. He has competed in many shooting matches winning many awards. He taught his children to love the outdoors, taking them on many hunting, fishing, and backpacking trips in the High Uintah's. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie Rae; two sisters: Gayle David Brough, Shirley Wayne Watson; children: Cliff Tracy Cannon, Chris Jill Cannon, John Cannon and Mary Alice Travis Smith, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. June 29, 2010 at the Clearfield 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 838 East 600 South, Clearfield, UT. Friends may call from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, UT, and Tuesday from 9:30 ? 10:40 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will follow in the Fielding Cemetery, Fielding, UT where military honors will be accorded.
