Michael D Scothern, returned home peacefully with his loving family at his side, on august 19, 2011, in Hyrum, Utah as his courageous fight with esophageal cancer came to an end. He was born May 2, 1953, to Oliver and Louania Scothern in Tremonton, Utah. Mike was the youngest of four children. He met his best friend and the love of his life, Roxane Lindley Scothern, and they married on June 24, 1977 to spend the next 34 years together. Michael loved being a father and his three daughters, Amber, Alicia and Amanda were the light of his life. Later on his love grew as each new grandchild was added to his family.
Mike believed in working hard and finishing what he started. He never turned away from a job that needed to be done or to help someone in need. He often put his skills as an auto mechanic to use helping family members and friends. He loved to spend time fishing and relaxing with his family outdoors whether it was playing cards, or spending time with his grandchildren in his backyard. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew this amazing individual.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Lindley Scothern of Hyrum, Utah; daughters, Amber Josh Griffith of Preston, Idaho; Alicia Chris Fricke of Beaver Dam, Utah; and Amanda Scothern of Hyrum, Utah; father-in-law, Gordon B Lindley; mother-in-law, Emma Rachel Roxie Lindley; grandsons, Trucker Maughan; Dylan Bickmore; granddaughters, Joely Griffith and Emma Griffith; Dakota Bickmore and Rachel Maughan King who held a special place in his heart, as well as extended family and friends and of course his four legged friends Lucy and Chip.
He was welcomed home by his parents, Oliver Scothern and Louania Scothern; his sister, Judy Scothern Mifflin, his grandchildren Jordan and Colton, his in-laws, Dennis and Diana Griffin and Rodney Howells.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends may call at the Funeral home on Monday evening, August 21, from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday prior to the services from 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Interment will be at the Wellsville Cemetery.
Mike wanted to be sure gratitude was extended to the many caring people who helped throughout his journey, be it bringing a meal, sending a card or a visit. With a special thank you to Delorios Wheeler and Dixie Udy, Steve Miller and members of the Hyrum 8th Ward, Dr. Ali Ben-Jacob and staff, Drs. Charles Graham and the numerous Drs. and medical personnel that assisted with Mike's care. The staff of Alpine Hospice, nurse Jeremy Jensen and his dear friend Darci Jensen, most definitely his family He cherished his relationship with his in-laws and truly felt everyone's love. He was at peace knowing Roxane and his family would be well looked after.
