Merle Leon Hunsaker

November 27, 1944 — December 18, 2022

Merle Leon Hunsaker, 78, passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2022 with his family by his side. Leon was the son of Allen and Clara Hunsaker and was raised in Brigham City, Utah, graduating from Box Elder High School. Leon attended Utah State University, earning a degree in Safety Education. Leon Married Barbara Blaine on July 17, 1974.
Leon had a long career as a safety engineer, working first at USU, later moving to Thiokol, and eventually transitioning to INEEL in Idaho Falls. After his retirement, he continued to share his expertise with the INEEL Fire Department. His work earned him many awards.
Leon loved water sports, owning several boats. He could often be found in his spare time on the lake with his family water skiing. He also enjoyed spending time on his ATV's and snowmobiles exploring the great outdoors. He owned a beautiful cabin overlooking Bear Lake, where his family created many happy memories. He was an avid Utah State Aggie sports fan, attending many football and basketball games with his cousins.
He is survived by his wife Barbara and children Rebecca (Darrell) Kimball and Jesse Hunsaker (Anna Thomas) (former Daughter-in-law Trisha Hunsaker). He adored his four grandsons, Derk and Jake Kimball, and Cash and Dacen Hunsaker.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Clara Hunsaker, and grandson Derk Kimball.
A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
