Tremonton, Utah - Melvin James Derrick, 81, Tremonton, Utah, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Hobble Creek Care Center in Springville, Utah.
He was born October 17, 1922, in Ontario, Oregon. He lived in several small towns in Oregon and Idaho. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1943 and discharged in 1946, where he served in World War II and served his country with honor.
He married Alice Hilliard on August 3, 1946, in Payette, Idaho. He now joins his beloved wife who died September 8, 2001. He moved his family to Tremonton, Utah in 1961 and was the Parts Manager for John Deere until his retirement.
Survivors include his two sons, Dale Derrick, San Diego, CA and Greg Derrick, West Jordan, UT, 11 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four sisters, Mina Lewis, Oregon, Bessie Snyder, Idaho, Elaine Burrow, Washington and Patty Hyde, Oregon.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Lester Joseph and Bertha Lind Derrick, one son, Elmer Glenn Derrick and three sisters Helen Carpenter of Idaho, Lucille McGinnis of Idaho and Betty Brown of Oregon.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. and also Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor.
