Melpha Marler Squires, beloved mother and grandmother, passed gently from this earth on June 18, 2003 in Logan, Utah. She was born July 25th, 1911 in Lewiston, Utah to Loron William and Florence Anderson Marler. She grew up in Lewiston with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Melpha graduated from North Cache High School and from Weber College from which she received an Elementary Teaching Certificate. She taught for two years in Cache County and for three years at Logan Junior High School in the Underachievement Program. Melpha married Melvin Ballard Squires on July 22, 1932 in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Logan. Melvin passed away July 8th, 1982, two weeks before their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they raised four children. Melpha was a faithful, life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she held many positions including Primary President, Young Women?s President, counselor in the Relief Society Presidency, and numerous teaching positions. She loved music and especially enjoyed singing in the ward choir. She served for many years as an officiator in the Logan Temple. Melpha was also involved in civic affairs and served as the Ellis School PTA President and also on the Logan PTA council. She is survived by three daughters and one son: LullaVe Don Davis, Logan, Utah; Melvin Ronald Jeannette Squires, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Karma Frank McLeskey, Fairfax Station, Virginia; and Margaret Keith Nickell, North Logan, Utah. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren , 2 great-great grandchildren, one brother and his wife, McKay and Blanche Marler of Lewiston, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and one grandson. Melpha enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. Throughout her life she was willing to share all she had and loved everyone she met unconditionally. She was blessed with a unique sense of humor that helped lighten every situation and was at her happiest when serving others. She was truly a model of charity and compassion for her family, friends and all who knew her. She was much loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26th, 2003 at 12 p.m. in the Logan LDS Hillcrest 2nd Ward Chapel formerly the 20th Ward at 875 East 15th North in Logan, Utah. Friends may also call at the Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, Utah at 162 East 4th North on Wednesday, June 25th, from 6 to 8 PM or on Thursday June 26th from 10:30 -11:30 AM at the Hillcrest Ward Chapel.
