Maxine B. Garn

July 15, 1919 — March 29, 2008

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Maxine B. Garn passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008. A beautiful, "roly-poly, blue-eyed baby" she was born to Archie Earl and Florene Buchanan July 15, 1919. She married Ernest D. Hansen May 7, 1942. He died August 1958. In 1959 she married M. Oleen Garn who died in 1990.
Maxine's life has been spent in service to her family, church and community. Service to the community included serving as PTA President of Bear River High School, President of the Box Elder Farm Bureau Women's Auxiliary, and judge at Box Elder and Cache County Fairs. She was also active in the LDS Church serving as an officiator in the Logan Temple, counselor in the Garland Stake Young Women's Program, Relief Society teacher, Primary teacher, genealogy extractor and many other callings.
Many audiences have also enjoyed Maxine's writing talents in stake and ward productions, high school assemblies and variety shows as well as in private settings. One of her proudest accomplishments in her 85th year was the compilation and printing of a family recipes cookbook.
Maxine was an avid quilter, enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, cheering for the JAZZ and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Julie Dick Grant, Jeanne Dan Earl, Chris and Ken Hansen, Clive Aloha Garn and Darvel Sherma Garn; sisters: Deane Wilcox, Gloria Del White; brothers: Jerry Barbara Buchanan and David Kaye Buchanan, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the Belmont 2nd Ward Chapel, 16925 North 5200 West, Riverside. A viewing will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008 from 6-8 pm at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and 10:30–11:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be at Deweyville Cemetery.
