Mary Berntson Rogers

July 26, 1922 — February 14, 2018

LOGAN, UTAH - Mary Berntson Rogers, 95, of Logan, left this earthly state on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, to be reunited with Dean, her eternal companion, which made for a perfect Valentine’s Day!
Mary made her entrance into the world on July 26, 1922. She was the first of four daughters born to Russell and Clara Berntson. She grew up in her home on 464 North Main Street in Logan. Her home growing up was filled with love and laughter, surrounded by uncles, aunts and cousins. Mary attended Logan City Schools and Utah State Agricultural College. She married the love of her life, Dean J. Rogers, on January 6, 1943. They celebrated 72 wonderful years together.
Throughout Mary’s life she exuded a love of music. She was an accomplished musician and played the piano and organ beautifully. She began taking piano lessons at the tender age of four and she continued ever since.
At the center of Mary’s life was her faith in Jesus Christ and her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends, which will be everlasting. True joy came to Mary in being of service to others. She fulfilled numerous church callings, her choicest was being a ward and stake organist, culminating more than 28 years. Mary and Dean served an LDS Mission in the New York New York South Mission in 1984 which was a great and enjoyable experience.
Mary was an avid patron of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre. She greatly anticipated their annual summer performances and was a season ticket holder for 20 years. These marvelous productions enriched her life!
Mary has always exhibited the talent of being a phenomenal cook. She enjoyed sharing her delicious meals throughout the years with family and friends. Mary’s love of cooking won her fame on the “Today” show during the 2002 Winter Olympics when they were held in Salt Lake City. She had to concoct a “JELL-O” creation with an Olympic theme in honor of both the Olympics and Utah’s famous affinity for “JELL-O”.
Mary enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and she especially enjoyed the annual trips to Bear Lake and Yellowstone National Park with family and friends.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Marianne, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, parents, Russell and Clara, sisters, Roma and Joan, sons, Larry and Dale, two foster children, LaVae’ and LeRoy and a great grandson son, Keshun.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff from Access Hospice for their devoted care of Mary. We wish to extend a special thanks and appreciation to Stephanie Murphy for her extraordinary nursing services.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at noon, Wednesday, February 21,2018, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North in Logan. A viewing for family and friends will be from 9:30 am - 11:30 am, prior to services. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
