Mary Vadis Hillyard

Mary Vadis Brown Hillyard, 91, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2004 at the Sunshine Terrace. She was born August 30, 1913, to Charles Alexander and Amanda Pearl Brown in Trenton, Utah. She was the 8th child of eleven, seven boys and four girls. As a young child, she spent her time in Trenton, attending local schools and graduating from North Cahce High School in 1931. While in high school she met and fell in love with John Keith Hillyard. They snuck off to Farmington, Utah and on the 2nd day of May, 1931, they were married. They were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a homemaker and a helpmate to her husband on their dairy farm, located north of Smithfield at the base of Crow Mountain. She took great pleasure in her work on the farm, and loved spending time in her garden and yard. Vadis Also spent time doing seasonal work at the Del Monte Food Plant, and in her later years she worked at the Smithfield Livestock Auction. As a faithful member of the LDS church, she spent over 20 years serving in the primary. She also held other callings, serving as a dance director with her husband, Keith. As a devoted housewife, she loved raising her six children, five daughters and one son. She was the ideal mother, always putting her children and husband first. She was a kind, gently, loving woman, who would not let you leave her house hungry. She loved to spend time in her kitchen and was wonderful cook. She loved her 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She will hold a special place in everyone?s heart that had a chance to know her. She always welcomed everyone into her house, be it stranger or kin. She was preceded in death by her husband Keith and daughter Carol DeMille; along with eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by four daughters and one son: LaDene and John Plowman; Ron DeMille; Mel and Shanna Talbot; Ron and Vicki Kell; Ben and Mary Lee Flygare; Bret and Renata Hillyard; sister, Thora Littledike; brother, Dwayne Brown; brother and sister-in-law?s Glenn and Jackie Hillyard; sister-in-law MarJean Smith; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at the Smithfield 12th ward, 179 North 100 East in Smithfield. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and Tuesday morning from 11:30 a.m.to 12:30 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
