Martin William Jenson passed away Feb. 28, 2025, as the result of injuries from an automobile accident. He was born on May 23, 1942, in Logan, UT, to Orvil Monson and Marva Sorensen Jenson. He spent his childhood years working on the family farm in Amalga, UT, and roaming the river bottoms with his dog and his gun. He graduated from North Cache High School in 1960.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden, from 1961-1963, where his father and grandfather had also served. After returning home from the mission field, he met Kaylene Cooley while working a summer job at Del Monte in Smithfield, Utah. They were married in the Logan Temple on August 12, 1965. They are the parents of seven children: Scott (Alysia), Brett (Katie), Amy Merritt (Rick), David (Tracey), John (Kim), Chad (Rachel), and Josie McEwen (Garridy). They have included as family two daughters: Diana Pappas (William-deceased) and Hope Casados.
Martin attended Utah State University where he graduated in 1967 with a B.S. in Social Work. He served his country in the National Guard. He also attended University of Utah and earned a M.S.W. in Social Work in 1970. He worked as a Social Worker in Phoenix, AZ, area, where the family made their home from 1970 to 1975. At that time, the family returned to Cache Valley to run the family dairy farm with his brothers Lloyd and Steve, and eventually his son Scott.
Martin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, always serving in various callings including two high councils and as bishop of the Amalga Ward. Together with Kaylene, they served a mission giving tours at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, and also to Nauvoo from 2013-2015 where he served as a counselor to the mission president. He and Kaylene served a mission as directors of the LDS Storehouse in North Logan from 2015- 2017. They have served as officiators in the Logan Temple since 2018, where he was headed to serve at the time of his death.
Martin loved the outdoors, hiking, spending time at the Amalga river bottoms, canoeing on the Bear River, and riding his side by side through less traveled areas. He was a wood and metal worker having built their family home in Amalga and remodeling it several times. He could fix anything or at least try. He had an inventive mind and was always creating something. One of his successful inventions was an attachment to an air pistol which shoots salt to eliminate flies. It is called Bug Blaster and is sold on-line nationally.
He loved studying the scriptures and Church related materials and teaching the gospel. We will miss his kind spirit, his gentle eyes, and his ready smile. He always had a positive word for those he met.
Martin is survived by his wife, Kaylene, their children and spouses, 29 beloved grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings: Jeanene Hansen (Paul-deceased), Glen (Kathylene), Lloyd (Aziele) Steve (Jana) and sister-in-law Dixie Jenson (Karl). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Karl, and brother-in-law Paul Hansen.
