Marriner Ira Brown, 90, passed away on December 2, 2013 at his home. Marriner was born July 25, 1923 in Logan to Emma Lyman and Ira Brown the fourth of seven children. He was raised in Logan and married his high school sweetheart in the Logan LDS Temple on Sept. 8, 1942. They shared 70 years of marriage together before LeVirl passed away on March 12, 2013. Marriner served his country for 3 years during WWII as a tank driver in the 86th infantry division and spear headed for General Patton's third army for 47 days. He first served in Europe and was in Germany when the collapse of the Third Reich occurred. After returning to the United States his company was redeployed by ship to an unknown destination. While in route, the nuclear bomb was dropped on Japan. They later found out that their destination was to invade Japan. With Japan's surrender they were transferred to Manila in the Philippines and assisted for six months.
After the war he moved his family to Drummond, MT., and worked on a family cattle ranch. They returned to Logan where he worked for Lundberg Motor Company. He soon opened and operated B&L Texaco with his brother-in-law, Heber Lundberg Jr., for 30 years, which was located on the corner of 1st West and Center Street.
Marriner was very gifted in mechanics and talented with his hands. He built a beautiful wood inboard motor boat coating it in fiberglass using a Buick engine for the motor. He turned a 1957 Chrysler Imperial into a modern camper. His family has fond memories of traveling in the camper for various vacations. He built two family homes and has helped build homes for others. He loved woodworking and making rocking horses, cradles, rocking chairs and 7 grandfather clocks for his family.
He was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. He and LeVirl served a mission in Milwaukee, WI from 1992-1993.
Marriner is survived by his children, Linda Myree Reed Painter; Denese Sheldon Case; Jennifer Dennis Nelson; Carolyn Garth Baker; Tracy Sherry Brown and Anita Roger Meline, as well as two sisters, Lois Hess and Edith Vernon Christensen. They have 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, 162 East 400 North in Logan. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Nelson Funeral Home and prior to services on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.
