Richmond, Utah ? Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Marlin Grant Johnson, returned to his Heavenly Father on his 81st birthday, March 14, 2002, at the Logan Regional Hospital. He experienced complications from long standing illnesses. During his stay in the hospital, he was surrounded and attended by his loving family. Marlin was born on March 14, 1921 in Franklin, Idaho. He was one of eight children born to Ernest John Johnson and Ruby Charlotta Peterson. On September 24, 1945, he married his eternal sweetheart, Catherine Guttadauro in Pueblo, Colorado. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 5, 1988. Marlin spent his early years in Richmond, Utah and graduated from North Cache High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps at an early age and at 19 years of age was the youngest Master Sergeant in the army. During WW II he served in England in the 8th Air Force, and as Line Chief, was responsible for supervising the repair and maintenance of the B-17 aircraft that were flying combat missions over Germany. At the request of some flight crews, who thought he brought them good luck, he volunteered to fly on many combat flights with them. He received a Soldier?s Medal for taxiing four B-17s away from a burning aircraft laden with bombs. He enjoyed his many friends, hunting with his sons and brothers and fishing with his friend, Earl Smith. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who adored him. We will miss his sense of humor, his kindness and his generous spirit. He was a High Priest in the Richmond 4th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After discharge from the military, he and Catherine lived in Shelby, Montana, where their first child was born. Later they moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a painting contractor and then to Richmond, Utah, where he was employed at Sego Milk Company. They later moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Marlin was employed as a Hospital Maintenance Supervisor. Upon his retirement, he and Catherine returned to live in Richmond, Utah. Marlin is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine of Richmond; two sons and two daughters: Michael G. Gloria Johnson, Grace, Idaho; Dennis L. Sharon Johnson, Conrad, Arkansas; Deborah K. Clay, Richmond, Utah; Nancy John Garret, Denver, Colorado; one sister and three brothers, Ida Mae Bill Romm, Richard E. Beth Johnson, Charles E. Ruth Johnson and Franklin R. Faye Johnson. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Harmon E., Don P., and J. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2002 at the Richmond 4th Ward Chapel, 150 South 1st East, with Bishop Wayne Henderson officiating. Friends and family may call at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Utah on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m at the Richmond 4th Ward prior to services.
