Marilyn Swartz Thornley, age 68,. formerly of Smithfield, and Brigham City, UT, passed away on Tuesday, August, 18th, 2015, with her daughter Jeana by her side. It wasn't sudden. Marilyn had been struggling with her health for some time. In May of 2015, she was admitted to Logan Nursing and Rehab, where she received care until the time of her passing.
Marilyn was born May 7, 1947, to Preston L.(Tony) and Mary Jean Swartz and grew up in Smithfield, attending Cache County schools.
She first married Russell De Alton Brown, and later divorced. On June 11 th, 1970, Marilyn married Jerome Seth Thornley. They made their home in Smithfield, Ut. raising a family, and enjoying their life together. Marilyn worked for USU as a custodian in the high rises, later for Logan City, as a custodian, in the Library and Police Dept. One of the highlight jobs of her life was as an Assistant Librarian in Sunrise Elementary in Smithfield.
Marilyn loved to travel. Vacations were almost a must in the early years of their marriage. Yellowstone, Vancouver, Nauvoo, Colorado, Cancun, and 3 very memorable trips to Hawaii, made for some wonderful adventures. In 1998, Marilyn and Jerome became involved in showing a baby blue Cadillac at local Car shows. Involvement in 2 car clubs presented more traveling, and further adventures.
During the time that Marilyn was actively employed, she loved to sew and create. As the years progressed medical conditions limited her handiwork.
Marilyn is survived by husband, Jerome Seth Thomley and Former husband Russell De Alton Brown. Three children, Leisa, (Randy) McMurdie of North Salt Lake; Scott D. Brown of Brigham City, UT; Jeana Marie, (Kory J) Heiner of Logan, UT; a Brother, Robert Preston Swartz of Brigham City, UT.
Marilyn is preceded in death, by her parents, and a Brother, Steven Lawrence Swartz, (Debra).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Smithfield 17th Ward Chapel, 345 East 300 South. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at
