Marilyn Hatch Jaacks

October 27, 1931 — August 1, 2009

Marilyn Hatch Jaacks, 77, peacefully passed away August 1, 2009. Known as Mary, Mar, Mimi, Gram, Grandma, and Mom, she was born in Washington, DC, on October 27, 1931, to Denise and Shiblon Hatch. She loved living in the Historic Hatch House in Franklin, Idaho, where she participated in plays, wore dresses her Mom sewed out of curtains, and socialized with family and friends. She attended the University of Oregon in Eugene, and later she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked for Bonanza Airlines. She often said how fun it was to see "the best entertainment in the world for the price of a Coke." Marilyn married Keith Anderson, and they moved to Logan, Utah. They had six children. They moved to Ketchum, Idaho, and opened Chateau Drug. They later divorced, and she returned to her beloved Cache Valley. Marilyn met and married Richard Dick Jaacks, whom she adored, in 1976. They met while working at Schreiber Foods. She helped open ZCMI at the Cache Valley Mall and worked as the Personnel Manager there for two years. She then went to work for the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University as the Assistant to the Director for 23 years. She enjoyed traveling and got to see many places around the world. Ireland was one of her favorite places. She enjoyed skiing, golfing, running, watching hummingbirds, sewing, journaling and reading. She was involved with the Red Hats Society and Cache Valley Women's Association. Some of her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved telling stories about them. Phone calls, visits, cards, and emails meant the world to her. She was a die-hard vegetarian and made a killer veggie lasagna. She enjoyed playing Scrabble with Dick and doing crossword puzzles. Her siblings brought her enormous joy. Marilyn was a friend to many and could make anyone feel at ease by her presence. She was definitely blessed with a great sense of humor! She was a member of the LDS Church, and she held various positions in the church throughout her life. She also found fulfillment attending Catholic Mass. Marilyn is survived by her three siblings: Dorothy Lundgreen Ralph; Gregg Hatch Martha; and Larry Hatch Diane; her children: Brad Anderson Debbi, Orem; Vicki Anderson, Logan; Kirk Anderson Hillary Ketchum, Idaho; Jeff Anderson, Hailey, Idaho; Tony Anderson, New York City; and William Anderson Chimgee, Salt Lake City. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Sarah Thimmes Glenn, Providence; Hollie Bulkley Casey, Orem, Brian Anderson Alison, Las Vegas, NV; Steven Anderson Liz, Salt Lake City; Brittany Lewis JP, Orem, Joshua Anderson serving an LDS mission in West Virginia, Charleston; McKenna Anderson, Hailey, Idaho; Casey Anderson, Manayunk, Pennsylvania, James Anderson, Boulder, Colorado, and Lukas Anderson, Ketchum, Idaho, and her great-grandchildren: Sophia, Eva, and Delilah Thimmes; Chase, Liberty, and Indie Bulkley; Nash and Haven Anderson; and Emery and Sage Anderson. Mimi will be missed by all. A memorial mass will be held in Marilyn's honor on Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 725 South 250 East, Hyde Park. A graveside service will immediately follow the mass at the Providence cemetery, 900 East River Heights Blvd, River Heights. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to CAPSA, Community Abuse Prevention Center, 435-753-2500, Logan, Utah. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
