Logan ? Marie J. Merchant, 87, passed away on April 1, 2002, from causes incident to old age. She was born February 3, 1915 in Knoxville, Illinois to George Wilson Young and Minnie Beamer. She graduated from nursing school at Galesburg Hospital and worked as a registered nurse throughout her life, especially liking to work in the nursery with newborn infants. She married Victor M. Merchant, a career Navy man, December 29, 1938. During her marriage, she lived in many places, including Norfolk, Virginia; San Diego, California; Waukegan, Illinois; Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Illinois; Lompoc, California; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Provo, Utah. After her husband?s retirement in 1954, they lived in La Mesa, California, leaving there in 1964 for full-time trailering before settling in Wickenburg, Arizona, where Victor died in 1985. She then lived with and was cared for by her daughter Toni, until moving to Smithfield, Utah in September 2000 to live with her son Steve?s family until her death. She is survived by her son Steve Deanna, Smithfield, Utah; daughter Toni Al Fosnes, Alhambra, California; grandchildren: Shannon, K.C., Stacy, Jonathan and Kathleen; and one great grandson, Alexander. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Victor, and her brothers and sisters: Harry E. Young, Florence Louise Steele, Bessie Gertrude Lewis, Charles Beamer Young and George Wilson Young, Jr. No immediate services are planned. In accordance with her wishes, her remains will be interred alongside those of her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
