Marcus John Russell

Providence – Marcus John Russell, 17, beloved son, grandson and brother, was released from his earthly bonds on October 26, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 14, 1991 in Tucson, AZ to John and Karen Russell. Marcus spent his early years living throughout Arizona until his family moved to Providence in 2004. He was a senior at Mountain Crest High School and a four year member of the baritone line in the Marching Band. Marcus had hoped to join the Air Force with the goal of becoming a pilot and performing with the Air Force Marching Band. He was well versed in military aircraft, especially World War II era airplanes. Marcus was also an avid fan of the University of Arizona, as the clothes in his closet would attest. He enjoyed his many friendships but treasured any time spent with "the boys", his many uncles, cousins and grandfathers. Whether it was fishing with Grand-Pop Russell or hanging out on the ranch or golf course with Grandpa Taylor, Marcus loved being outside with the guys. Marcus is survived by his parents, John and Karen Russell and brothers, Aaron, Noah and Jackson of Providence; grandparents, Ronald and Julie Taylor of Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico, Rebekah Ben-Verlyn of Sun Lakes, AZ and Mark and Alison Russell of Washington, D.C. The Russell family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Duke and his staff at Providence Family Medicine, Dr. Carol Bruggers and the oncology department at Primary Children's Medical and Janine, Heather and the employees of Intermountain Healthcare for the love and respect they showed Marcus and our family during this most trying of times. The family would also like to thank the innumerable people throughout this wonderful valley who extended a hand of compassion and caring as we struggled through this rocky road. You held us up when we were low and sustained us when we were weak. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Providence South Stake Center, 360 E 450 N in Millville under the direction of Bishop James Swink of the Providence LDS 3rd Ward. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held Wednesday, Oct 29, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home 162 E 400 N in Logan.
