February 14, 2013 Lucy Ellene Watts Johnson, 85, passed away peacefully February 14, 2013 in Murray, Utah, at the Intermountain Medical Center, from the effects of age. She was surrounded by many loved ones. She always signed her name with a heart and it is fitting she passed away on Valentine's Day.
She was born May 23, 1927, in Rexburg, Idaho, the youngest child of John Austin J.A. Watts and Lucy Ellene Nichols Watts. The family moved soon after her birth to Logan, Utah. Lucy was 12 years of age when her mother passed away. At that time Lucy took over many household duties: cleaning, washing clothes, cooking etc. She did an outstanding job of every area of home management. She attended Logan High School and was a leader in her senior year. She also had an excellent voice and sang in the school chorus and in a trio, the Blue Notes, one of the best in the valley. She attended USU until she married Stanford L. Johnson in September of 1946, later being sealed in the Logan Temple. They were the parents of seven children. Lucy was devoted to being a good wife and mother. She had a love for each of her children and took care of them through their ups and downs. She was always proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and their accomplishments. They brought her much joy. She displayed many pictures of her family throughout the home and was proud to tell you all about their lives. Lucy expressed her love many times for her family. She loved and appreciated extended family, siblings, nephews, nieces, neighbors and numerous friends who spent so much time in her home. Everyone "Loved Lucy."
Lucy had a great sense of humor. She was game when something fun was happening. She was easy going , happy and caring to those around her. Lucy was one that people gravitated to because of her kind and loving spirit. She brought a smile to everyone's face. Lucy remained positive throughout the trials in her life. She said many times that her father J.A. Watts told her there was no use in crying, so just smile and make the best of it, which she always did.
She was passionate about politics and the Utah Jazz, having a signed jersey by Kyle Korver that she swore she would never wash.
She cherished her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, attending the temple and reading her scriptures often. She held many positions in the church while living in New York, California and Utah.
A few days before she passed away, even though she was struggling to breathe, she still managed to smile and laugh with her family which was so typical of Lucy.
A special thanks is to be given to her wonderful network of family that gave so much time and assistance. They want to thank the caregivers; her doctors, nurses, and especially those who helped her at the Logan Rehabilitation Center.
She will be missed by all. Lucy was preceded in death by her father, mother, John Renelder infant son, sisters-- Arvilla Raymond, Marjorie Thompson, brothers—Lemoyne Watts, Conley Watts, Loy Watts.
