Lucia Margaret Berglund Hornsby

April 10, 1919 — October 9, 2004

Lucia Margaret Berglund Hornsby passed away Saturday, October 9, 2004. She was born April 10, 1919 in San Francisco, California, the only daughter of Oscar Beck Berglund and Jane Watson Ferguson. Upon the death of her father in 1932, Lucia and her mother moved to Salt Lake City. After graduating from East High School in 1937, with excellent typing and shorthand skills, she held several office jobs. In 1942, while on vacation in San Francisco, she met Ronald Frank Hornsby, a sailor in the US Navy. Ron was shipped out to sea that week to the Pacific Theater, and they continued their romance through the mail for two years. When he returned to the US, he stopped in Salt Lake City to propose marriage and they were married on June 4, 1944. They were sealed in the Logan Temple with their family August 28, 1963. Lucia was a busy mother of five children, she was active in PTA, Cub Scouts, MIA, and Relief Society. She was employed at USU Extension Service and then Thiokol, Logan Division. When Ron was transferred to Ogden, Lucia took a job at Sears, where she worked until she retired in 1983. She loved her membership in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, as an actual daughter of a pioneer. Her father, Oscar, came across the plains with his parents in 1865. She was also active in the North Ogden Civic League. After their retirement, Lucia and Ron returned to Logan. They celebrated their 60th anniversary with their family on June 4, 2004. Lucia is survived by her husband, Ron; her 5 children: Sherrey Ron Hults; Patty Bill Grewe, Ron, Rick Kristie and Nancy; her daughter-in-law, Laurie Hornsby and a friend Camille Neider. She has 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. For the past six years, the staff of Sunshine Terrace have been our true ?heroes? by extending tender loving care to our dear mother, and we wish to offer a heartfelt? thank you?.
