Louis J. Hoggan

Louis J. Hoggan died on Friday, September 29, 2006 in Logan. He was born February 15, 1910 in Ogden, Utah, the oldest child of Robert E. and Katie Eliza Hoggan. He was later joined in the family by five siblings: three brothers, Arvard deceased, Howard and Marvin and by two sisters, Ruth Rollo Robinson deceased and Margie Dean Hansen. Louis was educated in the Ogden City school system and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in England. Following the return from his mission he married Neta Pearl Child on his 23rd birthday in the Salt Lake Temple. Neta died in Logan, Utah, on April 5, 2004. They were the parents of four children : L. Brent LaConna Hoggan of North Logan, Utah; Caroline H. Burke Mattsson of Hacienda Heights, California; Robert B. Lynda Hoggan of Ogden, Utah; and Tamara H. Clint Judkins of Tremonton, Utah. Louis and Neta raised their family in Ogden where Louis worked from age 12 as a box maker for the E.C. Olsen Company. He worked for the E.C. Olsen Company for more than forty years. He later worked as a purchasing agent at Weber State University. Louis was active in politics and served eight years on the South Ogden City Council and four years as Mayor of South Ogden City. In 1976 Louis and Neta moved to Logan, Utah, where he took a position as business manager of Sunshine Terrace until the time of his final retirement. Louis was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in numerous callings in the Church including Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President, Bishop and High Counselor. At the time of his death he was member of the North Logan 5th Ward. Louis and Neta loved to travel and took pride in having visited Canada, Mexico, 49 of the 50 states and Europe. Their greatest pride was in their family. They are survived by their four children, 15 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2006, in the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East, North Logan, under the direction of Bishop Lige Palmer. A viewing will be held prior to services at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Interment will be in the Hyde Park Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Sunshine Terrace.
