Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed from this life on July 29th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born November 3, 1930, to Esiquio and Dominga Cardenas Benavides. He was one of 14 children, but only eight survived
infancy. Louis grew up in Carta Valley Texas, where he learned to work hard and love the outdoors - traits that stayed with him for his
entire life. Louis served with the U. S. Army Artillary in the Korean Conflict. He used the GI Bill to help finance his degree at Utah State
University where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. Louis worked for over 30 years at Thiokol in the Research and
Development Lab.
Louis lived in Cache Valley for 61 years where he loved the mountains and fishing the rivers. He loved fishing with his sons, as well as
his grandchildren. He passed that love of the outdoors on to them. He loved the Wyoming Grand Tetons and hiking the mountains of
Cache Valley, especially Smithfield, Birch and Dry Canyons.
Louis was a Master Gardener who loved creating beauty. His yard was a show place with hundreds of beautiful tulips each spring. He
had the best vegetable garden on Main Street in Smithfield that was envied by many where he had a raspberry patch and grew
vegetables for his extended family. Louis enjoyed growing different flowers and always had a beautiful variety in his yard and garden.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many different capacities, both
teaching and leadership in the Elders Quorum and Sunday School. He served an honorable Stake Mission and was a faithful home
teacher.
Louis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Hansen Benavides; sons - Jeffery Louis Sharon, Robert Mitchell Jackie;
grandchildren - Alesha K. Benjamin Brisbay, A. Danyel Jason Wignall, Courtney L. Jessica Benavides, Daniel M. Benavides,
Whitney Benavides; great-grandchild - Brogan Brisbay; sisters Lilly Owens, Dale Hocker, Molly Gonzalez, and brother Richard
Benavides. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esiquio and Dominga Benavides, brothers Esiquio Jr. and Daniel Benavides, and
sister Velia, and grandsons Jeffery Joel Benavides and Robert Nicholas Benavides.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Smithfield City Cemetery, 300 East Center, Smithfield, Utah.
Grandpa - peace be with you until we meet again in the beautiful garden at the fishing hole.
