Lois Lorraine Eggett Vail, age 75, died May 21, 2009, at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. She was born February 13, 1934, to Joseph Orson and Mildred Brown Eggett in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Sherron William Vail on June 10, 1955, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 34 years and had seven children. They divorced in 1990.
Lois grew up in Bountiful, Utah. She shared her love of learning, literature, and language with her children as they grew. She used poetry to express her innermost thoughts and delighted in sharing her poems with family and friends. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home wife and mother and was a good seamstress and cook.
Lois was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings. She enjoyed attending the Logan LDS Temple each week in her wheelchair with the help of dear friends. Throughout her life, Lois was involved in many community activities including Daughters of Utah Pioneers, the Singing Mothers, the Friendship Club, and American Mothers, Inc. Lois loved serving others and volunteering. She also enjoyed advocating for National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Lois will perhaps be remembered most for her eternal optimism and gratitude despite her many physical and mental trials. She had a remarkable determination to always look on the bright side. She continually shared her love of God and enthusiasm for life with all around her. She had an uncanny ability to bounce back again and again from accidents and illnesses.
Lois is survived by her seven children: Sherrie Green of Hyde Park, UT; Linda David Perkes of Biloxi, MS; Susanne Benson of Wasilla, AK; Lisa Victor Phillips of Hyde Park, UT; Stacy Sean Howard of Littleton, CO; Alan Sara Vail of Arlington, MA; and James Jara Vail of Richmond, UT; two brothers: James Sue Eggett of Elk Ridge, UT; Dennis Dianne Eggett of Bountiful, UT; brother-in-law Cordell Janice Vail of Gig Harbor, WA; sisters-in-law Eldene Alvin, deceased Jeppson of Brigham City, UT; Mary Jean Danny Nielsen of Hyde Park, UT; Bette Eggett Rohwer of Bountiful, UT; and Irene Eggett of Bountiful, UT. She has 31 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Sherron W. Vail; her parents; her siblings Joe, Keith, Jean and Linda Eggett; Sherron's parents Ammon W. and Winona Hale Vail; and granddaughter Ashley Green.
The family expresses appreciation to all those who have given Lois excellent and compassionate care over the years, with special thanks to Dr. Nordell Brown, Dr. David Faux, Dr. Greg Lambert, the Sunshine Terrace staff, the Access Hospice Care staff, the Bear River Mental Health staff, and many dear friends who gave quiet acts of service and companionship.
