Liberty Ray Lloyd

June 1, 1918 — April 26, 2007

Liberty Ray Lloyd, 88, quietly passed away on April 26, 2007, in Thatcher, Utah at the home of his daughter. He has joined his beloved wife, Ruth, ?keeper of his heart?. They were married for 66 years, being wed on August 5, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois and later sealed in the Logan LDS temple on April 23, 1943. He was born in Grace, Idaho on June 1, 1918 to Archie E. Lloyd and Agnes Elizabeth Neddo. This was a period of great patriotism and his parents proudly named him Liberty. He was the sixth child of ten children. It?s hard to remember a time when Dad wasn?t fascinated with airplanes. He saw his first plane at age 8, began lessons at age 15, and enjoyed flying for 60 years. In 1939, he began his military career, serving during World War II. He flew a myriad of planes and retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Colonel. He spent several years practicing architecture in South Carolina and was then employed as a pilot for Union-Camp in Franklin, Virginia in 1956 and retired after 29 years. During this time he also designed a bi-plane named the ?Liberty Sport? that later became a patented scale model. When he wasn?t flying, he was golfing, fishing, and being a gourmet cook. He was diligent in striving to live by the principles he knew to be true, serving in many responsible church positions. In the last few months, it was extremely difficult for him to go to church, but he faithfully attended because he knew that was where he should be. He will be remembered as a loyal husband, a loving father, and a stalwart patriarch. Liberty and Ruth were blessed with seven children: Jeffery Rex deceased; Carolyn LeRoy Johnson, Thatcher, UT; Catherine Kendell Hansen, Salt Lake City, UT; Christine Ronald Brown, Bozeman, MT; Liberty Ray Lloyd, Jr., Layton, UT; Constance Brian Mendenhall, Lake Forest, CA; and Alex Russell Victoria Lloyd, Roy, UT. His posterity continues to increase through his 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. There will also be a viewing on Monday evening, April 30, 2007 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Thatcher-Penrose church, 11475 West 10400 North, Thatcher. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
