Lewis Robert Boman, 94, died peacefully in his sleep at the Logan House Assisted Living Center on January 22, 2004. He returned home to his Heavenly Father and a joyous reunion with numerous deceased loved ones and especially into the arms of his beloved mother who died when he was only six years old. Lewis was born in Lewiston, Utah on October 27, 1909 to Robert Webster Boman and Josephine Pearl Lewis. His maternal grandfather was William H. Lewis who was the first Bishop of Lewiston. He was the oldest grandson of John William Boman who was a founding father of Southwest Lewiston. He idolized these two pioneers and followed in their example of thrift, honesty, hard work and devotion to family and church. As a young man he served an LDS mission in the Western States Mission with headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon returning from his mission he met and later marred Vaudice Pitcher in the Logan Temple. Had he lived three more days they would have been able to celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary. He was a successful and hard working dairy and crop farmer. His cousins and nephews remember that they could not keep up with him whether thinning, topping and loading sugar beets by hand or pitching hay or bundles of barley with along handled fork. He was an excellent horseman and ?Bud and Balley? were his favorite team of draft horses. He was a devout member of the LDS Church, serving as Young Men?s President, in the bishopric, Sunday School teacher, and director of the ward and stake welfare farms. He was one of the first to pay his building and welfare assessments and usually ended up paying another assessment before the projects were completed. He would quote scripture from memory in Priesthood and Sunday school classes to make sure that the correct doctrine was being taught. After retirement he and his wife served a mission to the Native Americans in Rapid City, SD. He thought that every young man and retired couple should serve a mission. He and his wife served together as officiators in the Logan Temple for 8 ½ years.
He loved his wife and family, and even though he was a stern disciplinarian, he had unconditional love and compassion for everyone of his family. He is survived by his wife Vaudice, two sons, one daughter, a son-in-law and twin sisters: Ronald Rosella Boman, Logan, UT; Boyd Linda Boman, Lewiston, UT; Sally Wright, Modesto, Ca; Rex Zollinger, Bountiful, UT; Helen Cragun, Ogden, UT; and Eloise Stocks, Cedar City, UT. His parents, a daughter Susan Zollinger, a son-in-law Keith Wright, two brothers Wendell and Dean Boman, a sister Lapriel Dominguez, and infant grandson Chad William Boman, and an infant great grandson Richard William Boman preceded him in death. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the Lewiston First and Second Ward LDS Chapel, 1600 West Center. Friends and relatives are invited to a viewing at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
