Leslie Albert Smith, Jr., age 79, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah after open heart surgery. Leslie was born to Mary Ann Williamson and Dr. Leslie Albert Smith on May 19, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri. The family moved to Ogden, Utah where he attended grade school and Ogden High School. He then attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, where he met and married Juanita Bell in the Logan Temple on June 21, 1946. He served his country in the World War II and Korean conflict with the United States Signal Corps. After his retirement from IBM he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, helping teach genealogy to the folks in Kansas, with his wife. He has held many callings in the church and spent his later years in LaVerkin, Utah working in the genealogy library. After the death of his wife, Juanita, on June 27, 1993, he married Aloha Grant of Basalt, Colorado in the Provo Temple on January 10, 1995. She passed away February 13, 2002. He is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two brothers: Ron and Lowell Smith and one sister, Gail Smith. Also his infant grandson, Brandon Smith. Survivors include his sister, Marion Blackburn, sister-in-law, Sharmeen Sheldon Moore and the following sons and daughter: Richard A.Caroline Smith of Sparks, Nevada; Bonnie Jean Richard Nichols of Basalt, Colorado; Becky Melvin Gibson of Cameron Park, California and Michael Dean Gwen Smith of Lexington, Virginia, with 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Leslie?s neighbors, Charles and Kay McPhail for their loving care of Dad while in LaVerkin, Utah. He left a legacy of love, service and friendship to those who knew him. We will all miss him very much. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in Logan, Utah at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
