Bear River City – LeRoy Del Holmgren, lifelong resident of Bear River City, passed away September 27, 2008 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born March 25, 1925 in Bear River City, Utah to LeRoy and Gladys Nyman Holmgren.
Del wisely married Phyllis Bishop October 27, 1948 in the Logan Temple after he honorable served his country in the United States Navy. He attended elementary school in Bear River City and graduated from Box Elder High's class of 1943 where he served as senior class president, played baseball and basketball. He extended his schooling at Utah State University.
In his early twenties, Del became partners with his brothers John and Nyman running a farming and cattle operation. In the mid seventies he became a partner in the ownership of the Smithfield Livestock Auction where he enjoyed the association with farmers and ranchers that came to the sale every week.
If not working on the farm, it was common to see him at high school and little league sporting events and theatrical performances which sometimes "he didn't even understand." He was proud of his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and wasn't afraid to share his strong belief. He loved Bear River City and its wonderful residents both young and old. Clixie, Richard and Dawn are fortunate to have him for their father. His lessons of life leave a legacy of honesty, forgiveness, gratitude and love.
He is survived by Phyllis wife, Clixie Brent Hollingsworth, Richard Sue Holmgren, Dawn Mike Hollingsworth, 2 sisters Beth and Carol, 1 brother Nyman, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 1 brother John, 1 sister Rosemary and 1 great-granddaughter Sara Deem.
