Leon Fredrick Laursen

November 18, 1917 — December 30, 2011

Leon Laursen returned to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2011. He was born in Hyde Park, Utah to Laurits Christian and Hilda Anderson Laursen on November 18, 1917. He attended Cache County schools and graduated from North Cache High School. He then attended Utah State University until he was called to serve his country in the US Army Air corps in World War II. He left behind a wife and two small children. Returning from World War II, he was employed at Hill Field Air Force Base as an airplane mechanic. He later returned to Logan and worked as a front end and air conditioning specialist at Hansen Motors, Pitcher Service, & Jack's Jeep. He was also a faithful member of the LDS Church and held many callings. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved the mountains, fields, and streams and enjoyed family hunting and fishing trips.
He married Fayetta Burrie June 27, 1939 in Salt Lake City. They were later divorced. To this union 6 children were born: Patricia Ann, Richard Leon, Angalee, Robert Louis, Denae, and Debra. He married Eunice Cooley January 19, 1979 and then resided in Newton for the next 26 years. Eunice died October 31, 1994.
While living in Newton, he was the Sexton for the Newton City Cemetery. In 1996 he was awarded The Outstanding Citizen Award by Newton City. He kept an immaculate yard and enjoyed gardening. The grandchildren loved picking pumpkins out of his pumpkin patch each fall.
He is survived by his four children, Patricia Clare Bowen, Robert Laursen, Denae Tim Brown and Debbie Wendell Moosman; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Evelyn Ronald Goodwin. 3 step-children, Richard Cooley deceased, Helen Hellstern, and Mary Ann Booth. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosella Baker; brother, Ronald Laursen; daughter, Angalee; son, Richard and granddaughter, Kami Brown.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for taking such great care of Leon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5 at 12 noon at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan 162 East 400 North. Viewings will be held at the same location on Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 6-8 pm and again from 10:30-11:30 prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at the Hyde Park Cemetery.
