Lenna Steiner Smith

LOGAN ? Lenna Steiner Smith, 95 of Logan, passed away Friday, February 7, 2003 at the home of her daughter. She was born January 13, 1908 in Rechervil, Switzerland a daughter of Jacob and Marie Walther Steiner. When Lenna was 12 years old her parents joined the LDS church and immigrated to America in 1920. She was educated in Logan schools and was a nanny and housekeeper for the Hatch family. She met Clifton Henry Smith at a dance and they were later married on March 27, 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Salt lake in 1931 and lived there until moving to Logan in 1964. While in Salt Lake City, she worked for ZCMI as a seamstress and did custom sewing most of her life. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing and gardening. She loved music and flowers. She still had a blooming christmas cactus of her mothers which is as least 80 years old. She was very generous and provided many hours of service for friends and neighbors sharing food, sewing, quilts and crocheted hangers. She was active in the LDS Church and did lots of temple work. She had many teaching positions and she provided money for all her grandsons missions as well as countless others. She is survived by her daughter, Connie and Richard Nielsen of Paradise, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 12 noon in the Logan 24th Ward Chapel, 1260 North 1600 East. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery. She appreciated all the many acts of kindness shown to her by friends and neighbors in her later years. As a family, we thank you all.
