Our sweet Mom, Grandma and friend, Leah Benson Johnson, died peacefully at her daughter's home in Smithfield, UT on Jan 29, 2011 at the age of 88. Leah was born March 11, 1922 in Newton, UT the daughter of Emory Harold and Ella Parker Benson. She has 5 siblings: Reda, Norene, Neil, Natalie, and Gladys. Leah graduated from North Cache High School, in Richmond, UT where she made many life-long friends. Leah met her sweetheart, Harmon Johnson, at a dance in Bear Lake Valley . They married in the Logan LDS Temple, on Sept 17, 1940. Dancing was one of their favorite activities and together they taught many young people how to dance. They had four children: Alan, Clair, Mary Lee, and Linnea. Leah lived life with vigor serving with love and diligence in the Logan, UT LDS Temple for 17 years and serving in many callings for the church. Her testimony and love for the Lord was a constant example to us all. She worked at the American Food Store, Gepharts, was the manager of the Dress Shop, and manager of the Fabric Shop. Leah loved to garden and grow flowers in her yard, and to cook and bake for family and friends. She enjoyed time with her family and any excuse for a party or get together. Leah enjoyed traveling, reading, going to the theater with friends, shopping, sewing, music and dancing. She especially loved her "Voice Male" boys, attending their concerts and being their "Voice Male Grandma". Leah was a pillar of honesty, integrity, loyalty and love and a blessing in the lives of those she touched. She was an angel here on earth. She worked hard and played even harder. Leah is survived by Geraldine Johnson, Smithfield, UT, Clair Faye Johnson, Connersville, IN, Mary Lee Patrick Warren, Hyde Park, UT, and Linnea Earl, Smithfield, UT. Her grandchildren are Ted, Denise, Rodney, Brenda, Dana, Bryan , Shawnee, Taylor, Brock, Tauna, Tara and Riley. She has 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harmon, brother Neil, sister Norene, son Alan and great-grandson Trey. Funeral services will be held at 1:00, Wednesday, Feb 3, 2011 at the Smithfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 640 N 200 E, Smithfield, UT. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S Main, Smithfield, UT and prior to the service, from 11:30-12:30 at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield Cemetery.
