LCDR Robert Eugene Pierce USN Ret.

LCDR Robert Eugene Pierce, USN Ret. Robert Bob Eugene Pierce, 90, of Providence, Utah passed peacefully away at his home, Feb. 9, 2010, after a full life.
Bob was born June 30, 1919 in Corona, California to Paul Eugene Pierce and Eva Adaline Thomas. He grew up in Corona. When 13 he met his future wife, Beth Carlberg at a 4H Club meeting. He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in Riverside, CA in 1937.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1938 and served on the USS Idaho and the USS Salt Lake City. On leave he and Beth were married in Yuma, AZ, Jan.1, 1941. In April the USS Salt Lake City was sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Bob was at Pearl Harbor Naval Hospital when Pearl Harbor was attacked Dec.7, 1941. He went on to serve on the USS Nassau and the USS Flint in 10 battles in the Asiatic-Pacific during WWII, the USS Boxer in Korea, Vietnam and the China Sea, the USS Baltimore representing the USA at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in England and the USS Firedrake. He was stationed many places in the USA and abroad as part of the Armed Forces Special Weapons Staff. Bob retired from the Navy, May 1961 a Lieutenant Commander and lived in Riverside, CA. Bob and Beth joined the LDS Church in 1969, and have served faithfully. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple in 1971.
He returned to school at Brigham Young University, Provo, UT receiving his BS in agricultural economics in 1972. He received his Master of Education at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA in 1976. Bob had a great sense of humor and was profoundly patriotic. He was a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beth Carlberg Pierce of Providence, UT and his 5 children: Robert E. Pierce, Jr. Rita of Harker Heights, TX, Charles Q. Pierce Julie of Kaysville, UT, Carol E. Leslie of Providence, UT, Annette B. Anderson Larry of Las Vegas, NV and Michael Ho Randi of Fruita, CO; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brothers: George N. Pierce, Kenneth C. Pierce and Charles F. Pierce, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Jane Briggs Pierce Charles and grandson Robert Ryan Leslie.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 N. Logan, UT. Dedication of the grave will follow at the Wellsville City Cemetery.
It was Bob's wish that a con-tribution to your favorite charity be made in place of flowers.
