Lawrence V. Burton, formerly of Auburn, passed away at his home in Millville, Utah on Monday morning, November 28, 2005. He was a kind, soft-spoken, and gentle man who led by his power of example. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who was known for his love of missionary work and the scriptures, and he often expressed his testimony of Jesus Christ and his great love for his children and grandchildren. Lawrence was born and raised in Star Valley where he grew up working on the farm. Most of his youth and early life was spent farming in Auburn, an occupation he loved. He served a church mission in the Texas-Louisiana Mission, and he was deeply involved in church service throughout his life. He served as a stake missionary, ward clerk, counselor in the bishopric, high priest group leader, gospel doctrine teacher and faithful home teacher. He especially loved fishing, gardening and reading. He was known as one who was well versed in the scriptures, and he loved teaching the gospel. He is survived by his wife of 63 years. He married Maybell Hoopes in the Logan LDS Temple in May of 1942, and they moved to the farm in Auburn where they lived most of the time until 1959. The family moved to Millville, Utah where Lawrence worked for Utah State University and some other local businesses. He is survived by his eight children: DeVere Arva Burton of Twin Falls, Idaho, David Faye Burton of Millville, Fran Jan Turner of Morgan, Utah, Edith Cal Hardman of West Jordan, Utah, Jed Elizabeth Burton of Burton, Idaho, Verda Steve Miller of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Donna Bruce Christiansen, and Kent Burton of Logan, Utah. He was the proud grandfather of 51 grandchildren and 76 great grandchildren. The children will remember his silly songs that he enjoyed singing to them. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 2, 2005 at the Millville 1st ward church, 110 South Main, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Nelson Funeral home, 162 East 400 North in Logan, Utah. Prior to the funeral, friends may greet the family at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Millville Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at
